
Pronouns as Subjects

A pronoun as a subject replaces a noun used as a subject.

I, you, he, she and it are subject pronouns that replace a singular noun.

Here are some additional examples:
John is an athlete.

“John” is replaced by “you”, a singular pronoun, and refers to the person spoken to.
Sue says where she lives.

The name “Sue” is replaced by “I”, a singular pronoun, and refers to the person speaking.
Here are some examples of subject pronouns in the plural form used for people and things:

Teachers write reports.

In this example, “we”, a plural pronoun, refers to the teachers speaking.
